ChipNL CC shares Dutch semiconductor expertise during Riga Chip Summit 2026

On May 13, 2026, the first Riga Chip Summit took place in Riga: the first chip-specific event in Latvia, organized by the Latvian Chip Competence Centre (LCCC). The summit brought together companies, knowledge institutions, Chips Competence Centres, startups, SMEs, and investors from the Nordic-Baltic region and the broader European semiconductor ecosystem.

On behalf of ChipNL Competence Centre (ChipNL CC), Peter-Jan Hendrikx, Partner Manager ChipNL CC, participated in the program. He gave a presentation about the Dutch semiconductor ecosystem and the role of ChipNL CC as a national hub within the European network of Chips Competence Centres. Additionally, he participated in a panel discussion about the support that Chips Competence Centres can offer to startups, scale-ups and SME companies in Europe.

Collaboration within the European chip network

The Riga Chip Summit demonstrated the importance of collaboration for the further strengthening of the European semiconductor ecosystem. During the program, the opportunities within the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) framework were discussed, including themes such as financing, access to pilot lines, technology readiness levels, co-financing, intellectual property, and the path to commercialization.

For ChipNL CC, the summit was a valuable opportunity to showcase the Dutch semiconductor industry and exchange knowledge with other European Chips Competence Centres. In his presentation, Peter-Jan highlighted the strengths of the Dutch ecosystem, including expertise in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, chip design, integrated photonics, heterogeneous integration & packaging, and quantum technologies.

Panel on support for startups and SMEs

An important part of the program was the panel discussion on the role of Chips Competence Centres in supporting startups, scale-ups and SMEs. Peter-Jan discussed this with representatives from Wave Photonics, the Estonian Chips Competence Centre (KIIP), the Austrian Chips Competence Centre (AT-C³), and other European Chips Competence Centres.

The discussion focused on how Chips Competence Centres can help companies navigate the European semiconductor landscape. It covered topics such as access to knowledge, financing opportunities, pilot lines, technical expertise, and international networks. This is directly aligned with the role of ChipNL CC: helping companies get a clear overview, make the right connections, and gain access to relevant European facilities and partners.

New connections with European partners

In addition to the presentations and panel discussions, the summit offered plenty of opportunities for matchmaking and networking conversations. These conversations contribute to the further development of the European network of Chips Competence Centres. For Dutch companies, this network is important because it can facilitate access to knowledge, facilities, and collaboration opportunities in Europe.

Participation in the Riga Chip Summit is in line with the international activities of ChipNL CC. By attending European events like this, ChipNL CC strengthens the visibility of the Dutch semiconductor ecosystem and actively contributes to collaboration within Europe.
