Collaboration around photonic chips brings scaling towards industrial production closer

Are you working on applications with photonic chips or integrated photonics? Then scalable production is an important step to bring new technology from research to market application.

The Dutch company New Origin is collaborating with the research institute imec to further scale up the production of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The collaboration focuses on developing production processes that enable photonic chips to be produced in an industrial environment.

From research to industrial production

Photonics and integrated photonic circuits play an increasingly important role in applications such as data communication, sensing, and high-performance computing. To make this technology more widely applicable, scalable and reliable production is essential.

Within the collaboration, New Origin and imec combine their expertise in photonic chip development and production processes. The goal is to make technology that is often developed in research environments suitable for industrial production.

Strengthening the European photonics ecosystem

The collaboration demonstrates how companies and research organizations within the European semiconductor and photonics ecosystem collaborate to advance new technologies towards application and production.

For companies active in integrated photonics, chip design, or system integration, access to this expertise and infrastructure can help to develop and scale innovations more quickly.
